Standing Local Rules

STANDING LOCAL RULES

(To be read in conjunction with the Rules of Golf and the Club’s Temporary Local Rules)

1. OUT OF BOUNDS
All ground outside the Club’s boundary fences and plinths and/or white stakes with black tops.

2. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS
All stakes within the course
Distance Markers: Yellow 200m, Blue 150m & Red 100m to centre of the green
Wire netting attached to fence behind the 16th green
Bunker rake holders
Staked trees & shrubs from which relief MUST be taken including their surrounding water dish
The unsurfaced roadway between the 3rd and 4th fairways
The mulched area between the 6th & 7th fairways
All paths on the course that are paved, covered with dolomite, wood chips or mulch.
Relief may be provided from intervention to the line of play by sprinkler heads or grates on or
within 2 club-lengths of the putting green when the ball lies within 2 club lengths of that obstruction.

3. MOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS
Stones in bunkers.

4. MULCHED AREAS
Apart from mulched areas defined as Immovable Obstructions and course garden beds,
any other mulched areas on the course are integral parts of the course from which
(unless another Rule allows), the ball MUST be played or declared unplayable.

5. GROUND UNDER REPAIR
Areas marked by white stakes or white lines are COMPULSORY GUR from which, relief MUST be taken.
Through the green, relief may be taken if embedded stones or rocks interfere with a player’s stance
or the area of his intended swing
Through the green, relief may be taken if the ball lies in cracked areas; or deep ruts made by a tractor,
mower or heavy vehicle.
All gardens adjacent to tees and greens are COMPULSORY GUR from which, relief MUST be taken.  
Drop zones indicated by white marks are provided behind the 6th green and the 15th tee.

6. DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES
For all play at South Lakes, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.
A multi-function device such as a smartphone may be used for distance only.

7. ACCIDENTAL MOVEMENT OF A BALL ON A PUTTING GREEN
When a player's ball lies on a putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved
by a player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment.
The ball or ball-marker must be replaced.

8. LIGHTNING
A prolonged note of siren. To resume play - two short notes of the siren.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE:

Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes
